Aftercare
I'm done with my tattoo session, now what do I do? It's very important to understand that the tattooing process isn't over until the new tattoo is completely healed. By following this series of steps that I've been perfecting for years, you'll be able to get your tattoo to heal properly.

The First Day
After finishing the tattoo, the artist will covered with a protective membrane (Saniderm) to prevent any contact with the environment. After 24 hours, remove this protective layer carefully and wash with plenty of water and fragrance-free soap until all the blood and plasma that has accumulated is removed. It is very important that the tattoo is completely clean. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel and apply a thin layer of healing oitment (Aquaphor is my most recommended product)
Healing Process
In the following 2 to 30 days it is very important to always keep the tattoo clean and moisturized with the healing ointment. Apply a thin layer 3 to 4 times a day would be more than enough. Avoid direct sunlight, intense physical exercise, the beach, the pool and bathing for at least 15 days. After several days your tattoo will begin to peel and itch, it is very important to let any scabs or peeling skin fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and affect the tattoo's appearance.

Special Attention
Never use alcohol on a fresh tattoo! Although it may seem like a logical thing to do, alcohol can create extreme irritation and affect the healing process.
Regular Vaseline is NOT recommended for healing.
Remember that a tattoo is a wound that contains a pigment that needs to be kept from being expelled by the skin in order for it to last over time. You have to maintain a balance between healing a wound and taking care of the health of that ink.
